Countdown to Hotel Bar Sessions Season 5!

Season 5 drops on July 8… and we’ve got an AMAZING line-up of episodes for our listeners!

First of all, THANK YOU to all of our Hotel Bar Sessions subscribers! We saw a massive bump in our metrics over the last several months and, as much as we love to hear ourselves prattle on about whatever tickles our fancies, it’s a lot more satisfying when we know that you’re out there listening, too. For those of you who are new to the podcast, and especially for those of you who have been with us from the beginning, we want to gently remind you that we have a Patreon page here where you can sign up to support the podcast financially. (It doesn’t cost a lot, and every little bit helps!) Signing up to become one of our Patreon supporters will include extra benefits next season, though, as we have decided to make our “Afterthoughts” series exclusive to Patreon going forward. (We won’t take down any of our previous “Afterthoughts” episodes, which we had been making available for free on our YouTube channel, so everyone can still see those!) There are a number of benefits and HBS swag associated with each of our Patreon subscription levels, so be sure to sign up today!

HBS co–hosts Charles, Rick, and Leigh agreed at the end of Season 4 that they would all like to have more guests on the podcast– thanks to our previous interviewees Jason Read, David Gunkel, Charles McKinney, Del McWhorter, and Jason Weinberg for the inspiration!– and so get ready for a superstar slate of episodes in Season 5, which drops on July 8!

We’ll be chatting with, among others, Dr. Eddie Glaude, Jr. (Chair, Department of African American Studies, Princeton University) about “The Public Intellectual,” Dr. Pamela Hieronymi (philosophy consultant for the NBC series “The Good Place”) about “Being Good,” Dr. Charles Hughes (author of Why Bushwick Bill Matters and Country Soul: Making Music and Race in the American South) about “The Blues,” Andrew Baron (creator of the KnowYourMeme database) about “Memes,” Dr. Kate Devlin (author of Turned On: Science, Sex, and Robots) about “The Human-Machine Intimacy Industry,” Dr. Joel Michael Reynolds (author of The Life Worth Living: Disability, Pain, and Morality) about “Rethinking Disability,” and Caleb Cain (subject of the New York Times article “The Making of a YouTube Radical”) about “The YouTube Effect.” And, of course, we’ll also have a few episodes in which the three HBS co-hosts fly “trio” and just chop it up with each other at the hotel bar.

As usual, all of our episodes will be available for free on all podcast streaming platforms, but we will be providing “bonus content” and extended interviews for our Patreon subscribers as well in Season 5. Be sure to sign up now!

In the meantime, we’d sure appreciate your signal-boosting our podcast, or giving us a (5-star!) rating on your preferred podcasting platform, or (even better!) commenting on the podcast wherever you can (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Apple Podcast, Castbox, Audible, etc).

We’re super-excited to share the new season with you, so tune back in on July 8!
